MODULE 2:
"ALTERNATIVE STRATEGIES IN COMMUNITIES"
2011 - 2013, Mexico City, Mexico

The research for second module of the project "Creative strategies" was carried out within the exhibition "On the edge of no return" curated by Ivana Bago and Antonia Majača in the Museo Universitario Arte Contemporanea in Mexico City. This part of the project addresses the meaning of self-organization and creative problem-solving within the community in the creation of everyday life, as well as the future of the society in which these communities operate. Since Mexico is a specific environment, in which there is a special emphasis on self-organization within the underprivileged parts of the community, with new methodologies of resistance (Chiapas) and less functional state systems, a month-long research project on these themes was carried out in the frame of the arts organization SOMA residency program during mid August/mid September 2011 in Mexico City.

The starting points of the month-long research were:

  •  Specifics of various communities in Mexico.
  •  Dynamics and modes of self-organization of individuals in different communities.
  •  Tactics and strategies of resistance (both today and historically), primarily at the level of resistance in everyday life.
  •  Visions of the future and the role of self-organized communities.
